An installation style mixed media tree. Combining all three mediums: Gelli mono prints of my silver maple leaves, multiple mixed media oil paintings and three dimensional oil paintings. Illustrating my personal connection with my silver maple tree, growth from the traumas of my past becoming Rooted and Renewed.
What started as an obsession grew a bond. I am in love with my gorgeous maple trees at my house. Drawn to the textures of their bark contrasting with the colors, layers and textures of their leaves, Trees are an enchantress; pulling me into their features, details, their true beauty. Especially “Willow”; the Silver maple tree in the back yard. The more time I spent “with” her; the more rooted I felt, like a new friend. It took me back to my childhood, reading “The Giving Tree”. I collected/studied her leaves, talked to her, looked to her for stability. The more I studied the bark on her trunk I noticed she truly was a happy tree with a smile about 9’ up her trunk. I immediately thought of my favorite part of the book “And the tree was happy”. Simultaneously I was working on healing from my childhood abuse, creating a home, a new life in CO; finding my true powerful self.

Just Sloth ~ For Tyler

After my mother passed away in 2007, unbeknownst to me I was in an emotional comma; for years. Until the day Tyler and I met, my brother’s oldest son. Tyler was sleeping being passed around the family. When my brother handed him to me; he opened up his eyes. We looked at each other and he went back to sleep. Just like that, I felt LOVE like I never had before; I “woke” up. This moment changed me forever, saved me. One of the hardest things about relocating was leaving Tyler and his younger brother Jace. For Tyler’s 9th birthday in 2020, I was working on a painting of a sloth for him. I even included some bark from my silver maple tree “Willow”. Shortly after I noticed out of my kitchen window my tree literally has a sloth figure. I knew despite the distance he and I were still connected. We always will be.
