I started “The Enlightened” series in 2015, my goal was to create a body of work on a personal level. To channel my pain, insecurities, fears and anxiety into my art. I decided to peer into the darkness of my subconscious mind and pull those monsters out for the world to see. Allowing myself to be vulnerable I was able to illustrate the stages/steps of my personal journey to achieve happiness and a level of enlightenment.

Using the female figure to explore and express emotions that come with nudity and self-scrutiny. This diptych is my own personal mental divide of my own body. Still at 40 years old, I have an extremely hard time acknowledging the lower half of my body- bottom of my rib cage down. She represents the struggle with full body nudity; the pain, the suffering, the unearned shame wanting to hide and cover up. Using myself as a model with my hands in the air pushing myself to look at my whole body and embrace those emotions and vulnerabilities. Having the strength to face the pain, the suffering, the unearned shame. She is called DIANA to reference my “alter ego” as Wonder Woman.
